Distributing
food rations

October - November 2021

Twenty-two per cent of Lebanese families are food insecure, living in a small and densely populated country (6.8 million-World Bank 2021) with 25% of the population are refugees.

Lebanon is at the heart of a region plagued by conflict and political instability, going through a deep economic crisis that the World Bank has described as one of the world’s ten largest since the 19th Century.  The protracted Syrian refugee crisis, the deepening recession, in addition to the Corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic, the damage caused by the devastating explosion that hit the Beirut Port, are all leading to the local currency devaluation by more than 90% and a 340% increase in the prices of basic foodstuffs. Inflation continues to negatively impact people’s ability to afford food and other basic needs.

Project objective:

At a time when more than half of Lebanon’s population lives below the poverty line, food security has become a major concern for many. Trusting in the importance of achieving SDG 1 and SDG 2 in Lebanon, namely the eradication of poverty and the eradication of hunger through the provision of food security, improved nutrition and the promotion of sustainable agriculture, LNE has made it a top priority to work on providing basic products at reduced prices and distributing food, as per availability, to the most needy families across all Lebanese regions.

Regions: all Lebanese districts
